The reason to why the welfare state would be desirable for the country can be illustrated through the following the reasons: the main reason and aim for the welfare state is so that the existence of poverty in the country will fall substantially, furthermore, another reason to why the welfare state would be desirable would be so that the inequality gap between the richest and poor of the country is reduced, thus meaning that the rich are not as rich and the poor are not as poor.

Finally, another reason that would show that the welfare is indeed desirable is that with the presence of a welfare state, the overall health of the population in the country is increased; through the funding of the NHS, a free organization in which all people of the nation can benefit.

However, it can also be seen that the welfare state is in fact not desirable, the reasons that some may have this attitude is due to: as a result of the welfare state, there is higher and more taxation for the people and they will have to pay a greater proportion of their money, some argue that due to the welfare state they are being forced to pay a higher proportion of their income than if there was no welfare state present.

In addition, some find that the welfare state is not desirable, this is because they feel that through the welfare state, the incentive to work for the people is then removed, this is some may feel that due to the welfare state, they will be able to receive the same income as when they would be working, thus meaning that the incentive for these people to work is then removed. Therefore some people will feel that the welfare state that is currently present in our country is not desirable. On balance, it would seem to be a sensible option to come to the conclusion that the welfare state is indeed a desirable option for the country.

Firstly, one can see that would be the best option and the best decision due to the benefits which can arise from the welfare state, the main reason which weighs above all other points is the positive effect that through the welfare state it means that the overall level of poverty in the country is reduced, one can clearly see this to be a very important feature as for a country from western civilization we pride ourselves on the basis that the levels of poverty are very low; through the welfare state, these levels will be further reduced.

Furthermore it is also evident that the welfare state is in fact desirable through the effect that it means the overall health of the country is further improved. The health of the people in the nation can have an undeniable effect on other markets and sectors in the country, with better health, it means that businesses and companies will run much more fluently with the number of people claiming days off through sickness reducing. With better health, it means that there are more people present to be working and therefore the country’s output will increase substantially.

Furthermore, one can also be assured that the welfare state system of the country is a positive program and one which will benefit, this can be seen as although some may feel that the welfare state has costs such as that the incentive to work for the people is removed, this argument is void through the introduction of the minimum wage whereby those working will definitely earn a certain level of money with which they are able spend on daily necessities and have the ability to purchase luxuries, whereas through the benefits which is set up with the welfare state, the people will only receive an adequate enough income where they will only have the ability to buy the necessity goods and eliminating their ability to buy luxury goods thus also meaning that their standard of living and enjoyment will not increase; the welfare state will only help those in desperate need and only enough whereby they are able to survive, this meaning their income will only provide for the bare minimum whereas with a job, they have the ability to receive a d definite pay and be able to buy luxuries, meaning that the incentive to work for the person is not in fact removed.

Furthermore it can also be proven that the welfare state is actually desirable for the country this is because of the long term effects to which the present, the welfare state means that people will indeed have better health in the future as the facilities to improve health are also better and the funding for materials such as machines and medicines are also greater which means that people will be able to receive better and more efficient help and health services, therefore although the short term benefits may not be as clear or evident, it is definite that the long-term benefits are substantial and will benefit the country to a much greater extent. In addition, although have a welfare state is desirable, there may be some loop holes in the positive effects such as through the theory that the levels of poverty may be reduced, however the reason that many of the people are in poverty is due to any addictions or problems that they may with drugs and alcohol etc.

Some may feel that the money that they will receive from the welfare state will not help their situation in terms of poverty, however it will actually simply fuel their addictions drugs or alcohol, thus meaning that they would remain in poverty. Although this loop hole may also be combated through the actual funding of the money to the people, whereby the government actually decide and control how they use the money so that it will actually benefit the person. Therefore, it can clearly be seen that the welfare state is definitely desirable for the country and through the multiple positive effects out weighing the negatives, is` evident that the welfare is actually desirable for the country.
